Readings for the 4 pm Worship Service December 1, 2019

The journey of Advent begins on December 1st.

You are invited to host this Scripture…

to read it and learn some or part of it by heart

during the 4 weeks of  Advent.

We will tell it and reflect on it each Advent Sunday at Worship as we wait and hope together for the coming of Jesus into our world...

John 1:1-9, 14

In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

                               and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things came into being through him,

and without him not one thing came into being.

What has come into being in him was life,

and the life was the light of all people.

The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness did not overcome it.

There was a man sent from God,

whose name was John.

He came as a witness to testify to the light,

so that all might believe through him.

He himself was not the light,

but he came to testify to the light.

The true light,

which enlightens everyone,

was coming into the world.

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,

and we have beheld his glory,

the glory as of a father's only son,

full of grace and truth.

Luke 3:1a, 2b-6

3In the fifteenth year of the reign of Emperor Tiberius…the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness. 3He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, 4as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah, “The voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 5Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth; 6and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.’”
