One of the ways we address God is as our Creator. Imagine...we are made in the image of God! That means that creativity is in our DNA.
At the beginning of Worship, when the Christ candle is lit, we often hear the words to remind us of that. You may want to light a candle at home with these words:
We light a light in the name of the God who creates life, in the name of the Saviour who loves life, and in the name of the Spirit who is the fire of life.
(Philip Newell, Celtic Treasure)
This week in Worship, we will explore creativity in scripture via the first Creation story in Genesis 1 - Days 1 and 6 from the Celtic Treasure, and Matthew 5: 14-16, Jesus instructing us to let our light shine.
Brene Brown, in her book The Gifts of Imperfection...your guide to a wholehearted life, sums up what
she has learned about creativity from her research on wholehearted living this way (page 96):
- There is no such thing as creative people and non-creative people.
- There are only people who use their creativity and people who don’t.
- The only unique contribution that we will every make in this world is born of our creativity.
- As long as we are creating, we’re cultivating meaning.
What is one of your early memories of being creative?
Tune in to Worship on Sunday or sometime through the week for reflections on cultivating creativity!
