Music is an integral part of Como Lake United
Church. Our music program consists of two active choirs, vocal soloists
and instrumentalists led and coordinated by Lena Kovalik. The music
program provides great joy, comfort and encouragement of out community
of faith. We are always looking for more people to join our team!
Every Sunday the sanctuary choir brings its
musical leadership to the service. It is a welcoming, all-volunteer
choir of more then twenty members. The choir repertoire contains
a wide variety of musical styles. Classical, spiritual, and modern
music are just
some of the styles incorporated into our choral singing. We make
every attempt to appeal to everyone's musical taste, as well as
lead the congregation in song.
Highlights of the choir's program include an annual concert and a special Sunday music service presentation. We enjoy singing everybody's favourites as well as learning new songs. We also work on developing our singing skills by doing regular breathing exercises, working on vocalizing scales and intervals and learning sight-singing.
If you enjoy music and want to discover and develop your potential talent in the artistic field you are more then welcome to join us! We practice every Thursday from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the sanctuary.
Angelic voices, ages 6 to 8, meet Tuesday from 6:00 to 6:45 pm. This program consists of basic music lessons and singing fun songs. Participants will get a CD with all the songs for the year. We are also planning to do some music theory this year. Professional acting and dancing instruction will also be provided throughout the year.
New this year is a program for those 9 to 14 years old. This program will be different. The first part of the class will consist of music theory and conducting. After that we are going to do some more challenging singing in two part harmony. You will learn how easy it is to sing parts once you know the technique. We will meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 6:45 pm. You will also be getting a CD with all the songs and the musical “Life of the Party” on it.
The children's choirs are open to boys and girls from our church as well as from the broader community.
In addition we try to involve more instrumentalists and vocalists within our community in the music program at Como Lake. If you are interested in sharing your talent with us, or for more information on our choirs, please contact Lena Kovalik through the church office.
