Worship and Membership
The Worship & Membership Committee works
with Reverend Jan Bihl to ensure the smooth running of
the Worship services; to oversee the décor of the Sanctuary;
to oversee the admission of persons into Church Membership; and
to maintain church attendance and membership records. The committee
meets approximately four times a year.
Leadership and Enrichment
The objectives of the fund are:
1. To provide financial assistance to people who wish the opportunity
to acquire knowledge and skills to further their own growth and
thus help the church community:
2. To enable groups and committees within the church to bring in
qualified leaders to conduct workshops and seminars.
Funds contained in the Leadership and Enrichment
Capital Fund are held in perpetuity. Interest earned by such funds
is deposited to the fund’s operating account and used to provide
assistance to applicants.
Those wishing to contribute or who wish more information, Please
contact the chairperson of the Leadership and Enrichment Fund via
the church office.
Pastoral Care Team
The Pastoral Care team meets regularly to share
the concerns of the people of the church through the weekly bulletin.
Cards of condolence and thinking of you, as well as celebration
of birthdays and special anniversaries are sent out. Phone calls
are made to shut-ins and some visits are made to nursing homes.
Concerns are shared with the minister, who
does the hospital visiting, on a regular basis. Other members of
the congregation extend their caring through phone calls, cards
and visits to ill and shut in members of the congregation and we
are happy for their ministry too.
We do depend on someone letting us know about
his or her illness or another’s and we encourage that this
information be passed on to the church office. Let us be the hands
and feet of Christ for others!
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the first and third Monday of each month (2:00 to 4:00pm) in room 120. As our world unravels bit by bit in various ways, countless circles of compassion are knitting it back together again, one stitch at a time. Shawl recipients especially will see more clearly that there is hope for tomorrow, that no one is ever completely alone, that someone cares enough to reach out and welcome them in.
Prayer begins in the heart. Because the creation of a prayer shawl is, first, a spiritual practice for the shawl maker, it’s important to set an environment of intention, or purpose, as you begin. We will get together twice a month to pray, knit or crochet and share stories and patterns. Completed shawls will be blessed before being presented to a recipient. For more information or if you know someone who should get a shawl please contact Cheryl Blake at jcblake@shaw.ca or call 604-219-5186
Bible Study
Como Lake United holds various Bible Studies each church year. Many use the Disciple Series of Bible Studies which consist of weekly readings followed by a weekly gathering using video and discussion groups. Dates and times of studies are posted in the weekly bulletin and on the events page of this website. If there is a particular area of study in which you are interested please see Rev. Jan.
Healing Touch Ministry
Our ministry team is made up of one Practitioner from Como Lake United Church and others from Trinity United Church, St. Andrews United Church and members of the community, all who have taken at least Phase One of four phases offered by the Healing Pathway Program sponsored by Naramata Centre. All practitioners have had criminal records checks. As Healing Touch practitioners we offer healing touch upon request. We work in pairs whenever possible. We go into the community upon request for home visits or into hospitals, care facilities or hospices.
On a regular basis we offer open sessions in the Sanctuary at Trinity on the third Monday of the month and at St. Andrew’s United-Port Moody by appointment. Appointments may be sched-uled at Como Lake United. All churches offer appointments upon request and availability of a healing team. These appointments can be made through the office of each of the churches. The fourth Wednesday of each month is for self care, held at Trinity United.
We support educational events regarding the Healing Pathway throughout the year. All dona-tions to the Healing ministry are used to purchase any supplies or equipment needed, but mostly to offer educational support for persons to further their education in the Healing ministry. Some of our members have gone on to the second, third and fourth phase of the Healing Pathway pro-gram. Some have become mentors and or worked a week in the Healing House at Naramata Centre during Good Works Week or during the summer programs held at Naramata Centre.
The ministry is spiritually nurturing for all of us taking part, as givers and receivers.
